Is A BOP Sufficient For Window Installers?

Window installers have a danger-filled job. They climb on ladders. They install expensive glass. They use vehicles to get to and from their job sites. a laptop and a computer

For these reasons, the right business insurance is essential. Most window installers invest in BOP coverage, or business owner policy plans. This can be a good place to start. However, it may not provide enough financial protection from all risks this type of business has. If you own a window installation company, consider your current needs.

Protecting Assets

BOPs tend to offer quality coverage for property protection. Therefore, your business offices and equipment may have ample financial protection with a BOP in place. Be sure the amount of coverage and the risks match your industry, though. You should have a policy that reflects the type of assets your business owns and uses.

Liability Insurance

For most window installers, the highest risk comes from liabilities. As an installer, your job site is another person's property. You are liable for window installation-related risks that impact that property and the people who access it. While a BOP policy can provide general liability coverage, it might not offer enough protection for your needs.

Window installers may wish to increase the amount of liability insurance they have. They can also do so through an umbrella insurance policy. This can provide coverage limits beyond those that exist in your standard policy.

Take a look at your existing policy. Ask your agent about the addition of liability coverage to cover lawsuits and claims of negligence.

Workers Compensation

Window installation can be very dangerous work. As such, a BOP policy should include workers compensation coverage. If yours doesn’t, be sure to add in this coverage separately, as all Florida businesses are required to have it in place.

Workers compensation insurance provides financial protection for your company if employees are injured. It also helps cover medical claims from injuries that happen on the job. So the more comprehensive your coverage is, the better.

Commercial Auto

Your commercial auto insurance may be a part of your BOP. If it’s not, consider adding it. Commercial auto coverage can help protect your vehicle, on-board equipment, and other assets from risks such as theft, fire, and vandalism. It can also include significant liability insurance.

Getting a BOP for your window installation business is a good starting point. But it’s important to keep building your policy to ensure your business insurance adequately meets your specific needs.
